And I found something......
.....er, several somethings.
Who knew the largest French car importer and restorer in the US was run out of some rinky dink hole in the wall garage down in Tha Durty Souf Jerz?

!!! Did you try to see how much you could get one for?

Awesome. I wonder if this the same guy who runs listings on e-bay for importing 2CV vans all the time?

Dat blue SM!

It is. Found a mechanic trying to get an orange one started and picked his brain a bit. He told me Tom Seaver (baseball HoF-er and winemaker) ordered one for his winery in Napa Valley.
They will also outfit H-Vans for damn near anything you could use them for.
And they modernize and sell 2CVs

Oh yes do want now

Nice.
I wonder if they supplied the 2CV Billy Joel wrapped around a tree in his drunk driving incident. Now that I'm in the EU I was wanting a DS19 or DS21 to wrench on but I can't find any wrenchable-drivers in my price range. D'oh!

I could get a 2CV that's been totally disassembled, worked over, re-assembled, and modernized to make it actually useable as a daily for around $8k.

Wow, that's not bad at all.

What do they do when they modernize them?

-GASP-
GIVE ME.

Oooh, une GS!

One of those H-Vans would be such a cool work truck with a little more modern motivation under the hood.

Sticky-on orange lights at the side. They must have sold the CX over there at some point.

$100 for the lot!

They do that too!
Just, uh, don't put premium in it.

What is this? I think I may have a massive need for this.

Citroen H Van

Yep. It's actually a bizarre story.
Citroën itself pulled out of the US market in the mid '70s and hasn't returned – the variable-height suspension made it impossible for them to comply with the '5 mph' bumper law (part of the law said that the bumper had to be within some specific height range).
By the late '80s, reason had prevailed and the bumper laws had been revised. CXs and even some early XMs were imported independently by a couple of US-based companies and modified to comply with US regulations. Citroën had nothing to do with it, and even prevented the importers from branding the cars as Citroëns, but even without official support, a remarkable (if still rather small) number were sold.

That is a Citroen type-H, produced almost-unchanged from 1947 to 1981. They're beautifully ugly, and quite iconic in Europe.

My god that is breath taking. I want one as a tow vehicle for a race car.

It makes me want to smuggle guns and explosives to a ship. Then go pick up freedom fighters before i wander into the jungle to die.
Just me?
![]() 01/09/2015 at 17:29 |

yeah.
It's less of a "gun smuggler" and more of a "baguette transport"

I beg to differ.
The Dogs of War. 1980. Christopher Walken. Used to smuggle guns and explosives in oil barrels to a ship that picks up freedom fighters. Chris then wanders into the jungle to die. Well in the book he does. Excellent read. Tom Beringer is in it, amongst others. Although in the image, there appears to be baguettes as well. Merde.

YOU CAN NEVER ESCAPE THE BAGUETTES IN AN H VAN

Ditto. LS1 swap. Then Rutledge Wood and I could be best buds.

I want a diesel in it. Maybe the new engine from the Ecodiesel Ram, or the diesel engine out of the Colorado/Canyon twins.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 00:45 |

I'd be cool with that.
![]() 01/10/2015 at 08:39 |

Although, with diesel being 30 cents more a liter currently the ls1 is probably cheaper to run.

I want a Citroen DS.

I need that GS wagon. Also, one of their 2cv’s was featured on Comedian’s in Car’s Getting Coffee .
